The MPEAD with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), is leading the update of Trinidad and Tobago’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (TT NBSAP) in alignment with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. As part of this update, an ongoing revision process that began in the first half of 2025 continued into the second half of the year, guided by a joint venture of Advisors Next Door (AND) and The Cropper Foundation (TCF) to ensure the strategy reflects national priorities, cross-sectoral linkages, and the country’s commitments to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. Between October and November 2025, over 13 focus group discussions and three validation exercises were held across Trinidad and Tobago, engaging 205 stakeholders from government, civil society, academia, the private sector, youth groups, and local knowledge holders. These activities reviewed draft updates, validated key actions under the National Biodiversity Targets, and confirmed stakeholder endorsement ahead of submission to Cabinet, keeping the revision process on track for completion.
