The Ministry of Planning, Economic Affairs and Environment in partnership with the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) and the Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) proudly participated in the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) 2025 and coordinated clean-up activities at the Foreshore, Port of Spain. Over 250 dedicated volunteers contributed their time and services to remove approximately 3,702.51lbs of marine debris from the coastline. This included 985.9lbs of plastics, 111.82lbs of glass and 2,604.78lbs of miscellaneous items such as a printer, two office chairs, two suitcases and a TV frame! Plastics as per previous years outranked other waste streams in total quantities. As in previous years, plastics accounted for the largest proportion of waste collected, surpassing all other waste streams in total quantities. This collective effort by our citizen scientists continue to highlight the importance of environmental stewardship and community action in protecting Trinidad and Tobago’s coastal and marine environment.
